Rooted in Wyoming, a project that aims to develop salad bars and school gardens for Sheridan County has welcomed David Johnson as its new Executive Director. He brings an impressive wealth of knowledge in agriculture, plant breeding, agricultural policy, international research and development, and business management from the University of Wyoming and the University of Arizona. His recent experience at The World Vegetable Centre has enabled him to gain valuable insight across Asia and Africa. It prepares Rooted in Wyoming to expand Wyoming communities’ access to local food production and consumption. David is excited to launch this work with Rooted in Wyoming and share his unwavering passion for change.
Rooted in Wyoming is proud to announce David Johnson as its new Executive Director. He brings an impressive wealth of knowledge in agriculture, plant breeding, agricultural policy, international research and development, and business management, having obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Science in Agronomy from the University of Wyoming, as well as a Doctorate in Agronomy & Plant Genetics from the University of Arizona. His latest position as Deputy Director of General Research with the World Vegetable Center has enabled him to gain valuable international experience across Asia and Africa, which will serve Rooted in Wyoming well as they look to expand and collaborate with organizations across Wyoming to meet the increasing needs of Sheridan County.
David is delighted to join the Rooted in Wyoming family and is passionate about helping create opportunities and spaces for food security that connect Wyoming communities through local food production and consumption. He said, “Our goal is to help equip communities with the resources needed to cultivate gardens and connect to local food, ensuring food and nutrition security for everyone in Wyoming.”
David Duncan, Ph.D., is an agronomist and associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh.
He was appointed to the Real Food Challenge board of directors in 2018.

David’s impressive 3,208 hours of agricultural research experience will significantly contribute to the advancement of food education. With his vast knowledge and dedication to the cause, David will be an invaluable asset to the Rooted in Wyoming team. Chair Olivia Koltiska was enthusiastic when she shared her thoughts on adding David: “We are incredibly proud and delighted to welcome him aboard, and we can already sense the remarkable influence he will have on our mission.”
David is a junior at the University of Delaware.
David Johnson brings an array of impressive knowledge in education, experience, and passion to Rooted in Wyoming, creating an exciting atmosphere with immense opportunities for the future of local food security in Wyoming.
