We’ve made a few changes this year to make the races safer–they’ve even moved to Sheridan County Fairgrounds. What is Skijoring?
Skijoring is an exhilarating and unique winter sport that combines horsemanship, skiing, and speed. Competitors race around a course of gates, jumps, and rings while being pulled by a horse. The chance to win cash, buckles, or other prizes adds excitement and challenge to the sport. Skiers use short skis with tow ropes for the horses wearing splint boots and bell boots for safety. The horses are usually equipped with Western saddles as they are well suited to this type of event due to their superior build and pulling power. This high-octane winter sport provides an adrenaline rush like no other, both for competitors and spectators alike.

Our skijoring races put on an unforgettable show for crowds of enthusiastic spectators. Locals and visitors alike converged downtown to experience this epic winter tradition—from the looks of it, we won’t have any trouble filling up Sheridan’s streets for many events.
