The Sheridan Mavericks lacrosse teams are on course for success, thanks to the dedicated coaching efforts of WR Wright and Brianna Scholl. Despite coming sixth in the state tournament and earning just one recreation match win this past season, both head coaches have implemented a culture of respect and academic excellence which has seen them awarded USA Lacrosse’s” Honor the Game Award 2023″, as well as receive backing from the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundations to host clinics throughout the summer.
The Sheridan Mavericks lacrosse teams are determined to succeed in all aspects of the game, both on and off the field. Despite the boys team finishing sixth in the state tournament and the girls team earning only one win on the season, head coaches JR Wright and Brianna Scholl have created a positive culture by removing toxic players from their teams. Through their emphasis on teaching fundamental rules to their players, the girls team was even awarded the prestigious “Honor the Game Award 2023” in recognition for their respect for the rules, officials, opponents, teammates, and themselves by USA Lacrosse.
The coaches are proud of what their teams have achieved and are confident that the team will continue to grow and improve in the coming years.
With the help of the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation, they are able to host clinics throughout the summer free of charge to teach the basics of the game and increase interest in the sport. Additionally, they will be hosting coaches and officials clinics to ensure that there are enough qualified adults available to accompany the teams during their travels. To help grow the club sports, they are calling on volunteers who are willing to come out and coach or learn how to coach or officiate.
We are proud to say that CJ Scholl and Brianna Scholl, the coaching couple at Tongue River High School, have been encouraging athletes to participate in multiple sports.
