University of Wyoming Extension educator Jeff Edwards is offering an exciting opportunity to the public, allowing them to attend dome-building events at the Boys and Girls Club of Douglas and Wyoming State Fairgrounds July 10-14. The free events offer participants the chance to learn how to construct a 22-foot geodome frame on site, as well as how to skin the structures. Those interested in this unique educational experience can take advantage of this opportunity with pride.

No meal is provided, but participants will be given a lunch break throughout the day.

We are proud to announce that Edwards will be leading the construction of three domes at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds from Tuesday, June 11 to Friday, June 14. The design features a trio of domes connected with walkways and has been developed by Edwards to create greater efficiency in accommodating space needs. Volunteers are invited to meet at 7:30 a.m. on the western side of the maintenance building each morning. Furthermore, for those who would like to pair hands-on experience with written instructions, UW Extension’s new geodome manual is available for purchase at the Douglas events for $20. This manual outlines constructing a 10-sided 22-foot geodesic dome with approximately 355 square feet of farmable space. No meal is provided, but participants will be given a lunch break throughout the day.

If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the manual, please contact Edwards at jedward4@uwyo.edu or (307) 837-2956. You can also mail your request for a manual ($20 plus $10 for postage) to the James C. Hageman Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center at 2753 State Highway 157, Lingle, WY 82223.

Participants attending the dome-building events at the Boys and Girls Club of Douglas and Wyoming State Fairgrounds will get invaluable experience in dome construction from UW Extension educator Jeff Edwards. Space concerns have been addressed by creating a trio of connected domes, designed to maximize efficiency. Through these free events as well as access to Edwards’ geodome manual, attendees can use their knowledge to build their own dome, allowing them to have increased farmable space to put to good use. Thus, this much anticipated event promises to provide participants with an enriching dome-building experience.
